Parsing the Panoptic Fugue: The Visuo-Cognitive Disambiguation of a Figurative Array Drawing Through a Loop (2005) consists of a series of 159, 4” x 4” paintings on gessoed cork board. It is accompanied by a lengthy (01:40:34) instructional video where the artist informs the viewer of the name of each item depicted and its relationship to the other items.
This video is an ekphrastic exercise - an attempt by the artist to explicate a cosmology of form, but it also servers as an absurdist critique on the authority of the author’s voice.
